Safety training of some nature is essential in virtually every industry. It is crucial for that training to be provided by a qualified professional. CIT credential holders have demonstrated the knowledge and skills necessary to design, develop, and deliver effective training courses. A CIT may hold positions at the manager, director, technician, or supervisory level and may have other duties in addition to training.

Apply Online

You may apply for certification at any time by selecting the My Profile portal from the right-hand corner of any BCSP.ORG webpage. Once you have created your account, you may select the “Applications” menu button to start your application.

BCSP will review your application once it is submitted and payment has been made. You must meet all certification requirements to be eligible for the certification. Once determined eligible, candidates have one (1) year to take and pass the certification’s examination.

BCSP requires applicants, candidates, credential holders, and other status holders to disclose if they have been convicted of offenses or have had a professional license or credential suspended, revoked, or placed under probation, as outlined in the Criminal Conviction and Actions Against a Professional License or Other Credential Policy. Information related to these matters is confidentially reviewed separately from other eligibility requirements and will be considered as part of the final credential application or recertification review, and at any time while status is held with BCSP. BCSP will evaluate the information and reserves the right to deny an application, revoke a candidate’s eligibility, or act against any status holder based on these matters.

Purchase, Schedule, and Take the Exam

You have one (1) year from the approval of your application to sit for any purchased examination authorizations. The CIT examination is $300 for a single examination. This can be purchased during the application process as an application and exam/exam bundle combo option, or it can be purchased after your application is approved.

You may purchase an examination by logging in to My Profile and selecting the “Purchase Exam” menu button. You will then be able to schedule your exam through the single sign-on (SSO) option to Pearson VUE through your BCSP My Profile at one of their testing centers. You may schedule the exam at any time available as long as it is at least six (6) weeks from your last exam attempt.

BCSP’s examination service provider, Pearson VUE, has hundreds of test centers located around the world. Examinations are delivered via computer at the test center. As soon as candidates submit their exam, official results are available.

Achieve and Maintain Certification

Candidates who meet requirements and pass the examination are awarded their certification and become BCSP certificants.

To support continued advancement of the safety profession and recognition of BCSP credentials, an annual fee is assessed to credential holders in order to retain use of BCSP credentials. All credential holders must also remain up to date with changes in professional practice and share their activities to earn recertification points required every five (5) years.
