Illinois State University’s (ISU) Bachelor of Science in Safety has been evaluated by the Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP) and approved as a Graduate Safety Practitioner (GSP) Qualifying Academic Program (QAP), providing the program’s graduates the option to apply with BCSP for the GSP designation after graduation.
The GSP meets the credential requirement for the Certified Safety Professional (CSP), the Gold Standard in safety certification, allowing those who hold the designation to waive the Associate Safety Practitioner (ASP) certification examination.
“We welcome ISU’s exceptional safety program and those who graduate from it,” says the CEO of BCSP, Dr. Treasa Turnbeaugh, CSP, ASP, CET. “Those who graduate from GSP Qualifying Academic Programs have a strong foundation of knowledge that deserves recognition, and BCSP looks forward to supporting them in the development of their careers.”
A Qualified Academic Program (QAP) is a bachelor’s or master’s degree program in safety, health and environmental practices holding program accreditation by the Applied Science Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET-ASAC) or the Aviation Accreditation Board International (AABI) and that has been evaluated by BCSP for substantial mapped equivalency to the ASP Exam Blueprint. ISU’s Bachelor of Science in Safety achieved ABET accreditation on October 1, 2013; any person having graduated after that time may apply for the GSP.
ISU joins a list of 21 universities and 26 academic programs from which graduates can become GSPs. More details and a list of all GSP QAPs can be found on BCSP’s GSP webpage.
