2025 Lifetime Achievement Award Recipient

BCSP presents the Lifetime Achievement Award annually to a distinguished safety, health, and environmental professional who has dedicated a career to advancing the profession. The 2025 recipient is Dr. Darryl Hill.

Darryl Hill, Ph.D., MBA, CSP

A 35-year veteran of safety, health, and environmental management, Darryl C. Hill is the Senior Vice President for Safety and Security at First Student, Inc., North America’s largest school transportation solutions provider. He previously held senior-level EHS roles at ABB and Johnson Controls.

Dr. Hill serves as EHS Program Director and Lecturer at Oakland University, where he has taught undergraduate courses in construction safety, environmental standards, and accident investigation since 1996. He also teaches graduate courses in the Master of Science in Safety Management program.

Dr. Hill served as ASSP President during the organization’s 100th anniversary year in 2010-11. He is an ASSP Fellow, the highest honor for a professional member of the organization. Additionally, he is a previous recipient of NSC’s Distinguished Service to Safety Award. 

Dr. Hill was appointed by the U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services to serve a three-year term on the NIOSH Board of Scientific Counselors. He is editor and contributing author for the books Construction Safety Management & Engineering and Safety Leadership and Professional Development. He has also written several peer-reviewed articles and book chapters and is a frequent speaker at national and state conferences.

In addition to being a CSP, Dr. Hill has a seminary degree in Biblical Studies, an MBA, and a Ph.D. in educational leadership. He also serves on the Board of Directors for the Alumni Association at his alma mater, Iowa State University.
