Past Years' Policy and Procedure Changes

Eligibility/Application

Effective Date: January 1, 2010

  • Certified Safety Professional Application Fee Increase to $160.00
  • CHST and OHST/CLCS Application Fee Increase to $140.00
  • Revised academic minimum requirement for Certified Safety Professional: Associate Degree in Safety, Health, and Environment
  • BCSP requires that all degrees from colleges and universities outside the United States be evaluated for U.S. equivalency by the Consultancy on International Education (CIE). Once your degree has been evaluated, CIE will return to you your original documents with your evaluation report and send a copy of the report directly to BCSP. Effective Date: Fourth Quarter, 2010

  • The requirements for references changed and CSP, OHST/CLCS and CHST applicants no longer have to supply a reference from their current supervisor or from someone who holds a professional license or certification. The reference requirement is two references who have knowledge of your professional safety experience. This does not apply to STS candidates.
  • Becoming certified within 10 years of your graduation date was lifted. GSPs will now be given the full three years from their eligibility date, like all other applicants, to take the Comprehensive Practice examination to become a CSP.
  • The time period to submit the annual renewal is now due by March 31.

Examination

Effective Date: January 1, 2010

  • Safety Fundamentals and Comprehensive Practice Fee Increase to $350 US & Canada
  • Safety Fundamentals and Comprehensive Practice Fee Increase to $450 International

Recertification/Renewal

Effective Date: January 1, 2010

  • Eliminated consecutive extensions for Continuance of Certification
  • Individuals requesting a Leave of Absences may not be engaged in safety practice during the leave of absence period.
  • Limit one Leave of Absence per life of certification
  • Continuance of Certification Category 10 additions/revisions:
    • Certified Professional Ergonomist, 15 points (revised from 10)
    • Senior Professional in Human Resources, 10 points
    • Certified Healthcare Safety Professional, 3 points
    • Professional in Human Resources, 3 points
    • Certified Water and Waste Water Operator, PA<, 2 points
    • Building Analyst Professional, 1 point
    • Certified Electrical Inspector (IAEI), 1 point
    • Certified Healthcare Environmental Manager, 1 point
    • LEED AP, 1 point

Effective Date: Fourth Quarter, 2010

  • Recertification period to submit points will move from June 1st of each year to March 31st. The first reporting cycle this will affect is those ending on 12/31/2010 and reporting by March 31st, 2011. If selected for audit, the audit report date is June 1, 2011.
  • CSP Annual Renewal Fee Increase to $150
  • ASP & GSP Annual Renewal Fee Increase to $140
  • STS Annual Renewal Fee Increase to $60

Reinstatement

Effective Date: January 1, 2010

  • Rescinded 30-day reinstatement option for invalidation due to non-compliance of Continuance of Certification.
